Your tasks

The language centre at HNU is a central organ of the university and is located at the faculty of Information Management. HNU currently offers a number of English-language masters programmes, and mandatory, subject-specific English courses are part of every bachelor program. The head of the language centre is responsible for the strategic development of language training at the HNU, including:
  • Further development of the curriculum, including course-specific language instruction across all faculties and bachelors/masters programmes for students with heterogeneous language backgrounds, with a focus on the introduction of innovative teaching methods (blended learning/online courses/digital testing).
  • Development and implementation of language support during the initial phases of study for bachelors and masters programmes for German-speaking students and for international exchange and degree-seeking students, as well as accompanying language skills support in areas such as academic writing, intercultural communication, or job applications.
  • Preparation of students for intercultural contact and cooperation with international universities and companies, whether as part of their studies or as preparation for the transition between university and career.
  • Promotion of the ongoing internationalisation activities at HNU in the areas of research, teaching and administration, and English language communication in teaching and research.
  • Personnel management responsibility for four full-time language lecturers and more than 20 freelance instructors, as well as responsibility for the budget of the language centre as a whole.

Our expectations

Applicants should have experience of working in an English language environment, preferably in an international business environment or English-speaking business culture. Demonstrable skills and experience with budgetary and personnel responsibilities are equally important. Furthermore, an interest in media, communications, and the challenges to the global employment market in times of digital transformation would be desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role within university institutions.
